What is curiosity?
What is curiosity?
Curiosity is the ability to question oneself and to ask questions. It is an admirable trait that should be encouraged and cultivated in everyone. To be curious, it is necessary to have the courage and willingness to look for answers / experiences to satisfy our curiosity.
You may be a very curious person, but you have grown up in a society that belittles all unconventional ideas or questions. As a result, you and many others have buried your curiosity deep within yourself, convincing yourself that it is no longer necessary to be curious.
The vast majority of adults today think that they "know it all", thus limiting their own psychological, intellectual or spiritual development. What a waste! They do so because their age - according to the conventions of society - dictates how they behave.
If you are an adult, you are supposed to have "discovered everything" about life. Yet to be curious is to be humble. It's having enough willpower and open-mindedness to say, "Yes, I don't know, but I'd like to know."
The 7 benefits of being curious
Curiosity is good for your mind, and we will see the 7 good reasons to be curious:
1] You'll become smarter by asking
The first thing to do is to get into the habit of always asking others what you don't know. If you're standing next to someone who knows the answer, don't hesitate. That's what you've always done since you were a kid, isn't it?
Of course, today you've grown up and you know a lot more than you did before. But you'll never know everything, that's for sure. Alas, many people have a very limiting thought, that of believing that asking makes us look "stupid".
It's a very limiting belief, and it's much more widespread than you think! Many people don't like to admit it, because it hurts their ego. However, know that until you ask, you won't know.
Being afraid to ask questions is a bit like being afraid to gain knowledge, it's pretty stupid, isn't it?
Besides, very often the people around you don't know any more than you do. They may secretly wonder what "it" means or how "it" works, but they are too afraid to raise their voices to ask. And even if they knew everything and you were the only one who didn't know, then they might tell you!
So asking is not the end of the world, you will come out of it with new knowledge. In fact, knowledge is one of the few things that comes to fruition when you share it with others. So ask and share!
2] You will have new experiences
Have you ever wondered what it's like to walk outside without shoes? Or if you're good at drawing clouds passing by in the sky? Or if you were talking to a certain person?
Or if you took a different route home? Or if you go to that store that you've always been attracted to? Or if you ordered something different?
How about trying that new exercise? Or how about learning about a new philosophy of life? Or go for a walk with other friends you don't usually go out with? Or live in another part of the world for a few months?
How would your life be changed? For all these questions, there is only one way to find out... Go for it!

"The important thing is to never stop questioning yourself. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. You can only be in admiration as you contemplate the mysteries of eternity, of life, and of the structure of what makes up reality. It's enough for each of us to try to understand this mystery little by little every day." - Albert Einstein
